One and All, Welcome to the game of Paddleminton which doesn’t require a net and frankly can be played with just two lines drawn on the ground. It is a whole lot of fun and is an offshoot of Crossminton and Speedminton (get to web crawling), but with Paddles. (THE SHORT VERSION)Paddleminton for singles consist of two 13′ x 13′ squares marked on the ground and spaced 26′ apart. Of course you can modify this for your space and maybe for the kiddies.The object of Paddleminton is to strike the Speeder (a.k.a. birdie/shuttlecock) with thepaddle so it lands in your opponent’s square while preventing the speeder from landing in your square. Simple enough.Scoring: First Player to 10 points wins the set with Players alternating the Serve every two points. Great thing is First to 10 points Wins. No need to win by 2 points like other games. A Match consist of 4 Sets.Changing sides: Players change the squares after each set to keep it fair.Service: The Serve in Paddleminton is a “cooperative serve.” The server hits an “easy” serve to the opponent to start the point.The Good StuffFantastic game for kids and adults that only requires a line drawn for each side. A full court is easy to draw if you want and bonus is you won’t need a net. The Shuttlecocks are made from real feathers and fly like the wind. I was truly amazed. The balls are equally fun to hit, with excellent bounce off the paddle.The Bad StuffThe grip on the paddles are soft spongy things that I’m sure will not last. More of a nuisance than anything because I have plenty of different tapes for handles. The paddles are not sealed. Just plain, exposed wood. I imagine they will absorb a fair amount of moisture and dirt. So, I intend to seal them. Not sure with what yet.Who May Use/Like ItAny age that has some hand eye coordination and the desire to be active.Me Final ThoughtsThis is a fun game with easy rules, simple set up, compact, and can be played almost anywhere. It’s a good beginner set and worth the cost if it last a couple three years. I didn’t ding the Stars for the small nuisance things or the abysmal marketing as badminton.
